The theme for Energy Reinvented Community in 2026 is ‘Finding Our Balance’. With this theme, we focus on the energy transition’s new reality; meaningful steps are being taken, but progress is also slowing. Viable business cases remain scarce, due to insufficient demand in the market. Also, new investments are hindered by infrastructure that is not yet available, and shifting (geo)political dynamics are pulling focus in new directions. The sole focus on sustainability has shifted more towards security of supply, affordability, competitiveness and resilience of the energy system. In this changing landscape, finding a new balance is essential.
Friction is inevitable for any large project with many stakeholders involved. So, if we want to work on a new balance, it is of the utmost importance to define and deal with these friction points. Therefore, our upcoming ERC event ‘From Friction to Flow’ – hosted by TNO and Arcadis on 16 April in Rijswijk – zooms in on main causes for friction within new energy projects. We gain insights on how to remove or deal with these friction points – both in the short and long run – and we will discuss creative solutions that may resolve the friction points.
During the event, you can expect our speakers and panelists from industry, policy and academia to discuss:
- How can companies that need each other, but do not yet know each other, find one another?
- What policies are needed to support the development of a robust value chain?
- What is the balance between public and private organizations? What role can – and should – publicly owned companies play?
- How can each link in the chain build its business case? What stimulation measures and incentives could work here?
- How can we create demand to activate the value chain?
- What lessons do other countries offer here?

The participation fee for the event is € 75. A once-off registration (free of charge) to become a member of ERC is a mandatory requirement for event participation.
